Below the next paragraph, you will find the first and last poetic effort of my short literary career. My favorite poem when I was growing up and still to this day is "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer. In contrast to me, he was a true American writer/poet and it is unfortunate that his life was cut short in 1918 serving as a sergeant in the "Fighting 69th" during World War I. My poem is a spin-off of his well-known work and, hopefully, no one will take offense to it.
