About 60-70% of epileptic patients get benefited from the administration of antiepileptic drugs but, they do not have the capability to overcome epileptogenesis. Recently, Yoga (Sahaja), Mantra (Om and Gayatri) and Meditation are the emerging tools to calm and manage the lifestyle in epilepsy patients and can be used as a complementary therapy to antiepileptic drugs. Regular and consistent practice of Yoga and meditation show significant improvement in parasympathetic parameters and a decrease in seizure frequency score. Gayatri mantra improves the level of certain neurotransmitters like GABA whose level decreases in epilepsy. In addition, specific vibrational frequency generated during yoga, mantra chanting and meditation also empower the neuronal function. However, more research is needed in this area.
