This book is a milestone in a series of publications during the early 2000s, when Turkish authors addressed the legacy of mass-persecution and genocide of Armenians in Turkey. They were part of public discussions and played an important role in shifting public opinion in Turkey. These works were originally written in Turkish and Kurdish and quickly translated into other languages. Yalç¿n's work is a particularly reflective account of his discovery of the Armenian issue, first in Germany, and then in his native Turkey. His writing is both sensitive and powerful, and a great piece of literature in its own right.
