Alexandra Armstrong, CFP(R), was one of the first women in the country to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(TM) practitioner (CFP(R)). In addition, she is a Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM (CRPC(R)). Alex serves as chairman emeritus of Armstrong, Fleming & Moore, Inc., a financial planning firm based in Washington, DC, which she founded in 1983. Her clients include single women, dual-income couples and those close to retirement as well as those already retired. Alex has held leadership roles at several nonprofit organizations. She served as the chairman of the Financial Planning Association (first female), Foundation for Financial Planning, the Boy Scouts National Capital Area Council (first female) and the International Women's Forum of Washington, DC. She was treasurer of Reading is Fundamental as well as the DC Police Foundation. Alex has written a monthly financial planning column for Better Investing magazine for the past forty years. She is coauthor of On Your Own; A Widow's Passage to Emotional and Financial Well-Being, now in its fifth edition. She has been quoted in virtually every major U.S. financial publication and has appeared on numerous national television programs, including CBS This Morning, Good Morning America and Wall$treet Week. Alex offers securities through her broker dealer, Commonwealth Financial Network, Member FINRA/ SIPC, a Registered Investment Adviser.
