A skinny Jewish boy in a patched jacket and short trousers was a student of the artist Savrasov. But because of the hostile attitude towards Savrasov, who was not indifferent to alcohol, the teachers transferred this hostility to his student. Levitan's diploma work was recognized as unworthy of a medal, he did not receive the title of artist. He was given only a miserable diploma of a calligraphy teacher.
