Book marketing is a business activity that will last for as long as you want your book to stay alive.
What works this month may not work next year. That is why you have to revisit your strategy once per quarter (I suggest) to evaluate your efforts and make changes as needed.
Remember that your book(s) is your business -- and it has to be treated as such. Think about how you look at a storefront who keeps the sidewalk full of garbage and leaves. Is that a business you would like to patronize? Probably not. So I urge you to take pride in your business by making the decision to put on your marketing hat. You ARE a marketer. There are loads of people out there who are ready to buy your books, they are just waiting for you to show up.
