As the title rhythmically indicates, the 1st book of poetry by David D.C. Coleman II. The poems contained therein are a collage of much of the musing and writings that D.C. has accumulated over the past couple of years. The theme to this book is based mainly off of observation and social commentary on the general ills of society from the eyes of a young Black (African, indigenous, autochthonous or whatever name or categorization suits you to identify by) adult. Given to the changing world and circumstances of our times, especially for a lot of us Black Millennials finding ourselves in a world. A constant flux where over the course of 20 plus years have gone through 9/11, a financial meltdown crisis in 2007 and to crown it all off a viral epidemic with a questionable name, we are being faced with a lot, all this before some of us have even reached the age of 40. Many of the advice and guidance of our parents and/or elders seem to be at times outmoded and outdated. That we find ourselves being pushed into being adaptable and change with the times, breaking old rules and rewriting them no matter how messy the growth process is.
¿These collections of poems are listed here as a way to capture over the past decade the developing mindset of someone coming of age trying to make sense of this rapidly changing society that seems to be nearly always in a state of flux and on hyper drive. And at the same time, a society that is built on a platform that is showing its age, having been built by those of generations past that is at times severely out of touch and at odds with the needs of the younger generation of today. The subject matter of these poems in general is social commentary on the problems of race, class, politics, social engineering, social isolation, economical hardships and relationships. I hope that this collection of poems will help to inspire and enlighten you in some way to move forward, stay motivated and achieve your vision and dreams.
