A Doll's House held the distinction of being the most-performed drama in the entire globe in 2006, the year of Ibsen's death and the century of his birth. In 2001, in appreciation of the historical importance of Ibsen's handwritten manuscripts for A Doll's House, UNESCO inscribed them on the Memory of the World Register. Although some academics prefer A Doll House, the play's title is most frequently rendered as A Doll's House. A Doll's House is "the British name for what [Americans] call a dollhouse," according to John Simon.
