Produktbeschreibung
In "A Dream of Armageddon," H.G. Wells masterfully intertwines themes of prophecy, war, and the human psyche within a speculative narrative that teeters on the brink of dystopian foreboding. The novella, characterized by Wells' signature blend of vivid imagination and incisive social commentary, presents a dreamer's chilling vision of a devastated future ravaged by global conflict. The literary style is evocative, employing rich imagery and philosophical dialogues that explore existential dread in the face of inevitable destruction, situating the work within the burgeoning oeuvre of early 20th-century speculative fiction that grapples with the consequences of technological advancement and imperialism. Wells, often heralded as the father of science fiction, was deeply influenced by the tumultuous socio-political landscape of his time, including the shadows cast by World War I. His career as a journalist and social critic allowed him to perceive the harrowing realities of warfare and its profound impact on society. "A Dream of Armageddon" reflects his concerns regarding humanity's trajectory, showcasing his uncanny ability to prophesy the repercussions of collective self-destruction. For readers intrigued by the intersection of imagination and reality, this novella is an essential exploration of the darker facets of human ambition. Wells' prophetic vision serves as a poignant reminder of the fragile nature of civilization. Whether you are a long-time Wells enthusiast or a newcomer to his works, "A Dream of Armageddon" promises to captivate and challenge your understanding of the future.

Autorenporträt
H.G Wells is one of the founding fathers of Science Fiction who, along with Jules Verne, helped define what was then called 'scientific romance.' Born in Bromley, Kent in 1866, his most famous work is arguably The War of the Worlds, where Martian invaders lay waste to great swathes of Surrey. In his stories he predicted spacecraft, aircraft, nuclear power, tanks and something suspiciously like the internet. Many of his most famous works, like the Island of Dr Moreau, explore what man might be capable of - and what the consequences of our actions might be.
