Produktbeschreibung
A Fairy Tale in Two Acts Taken from Shakespeare (1763) is an intriguing collection that invites readers into a kaleidoscope of narrative magic and dramaturgical innovation, where Shakespeare's timeless tales are transformed and reimagined through a late 18th-century lens. Balancing between the classical elegance of Shakespearean drama and the imaginative reinterpretations by editors and adaptors of the time, this anthology offers a rich exploration of themes such as love, power, and metamorphosis. It includes an array of styles and dramatic techniques from the whimsical to the profound, showcasing standout renditions that evoke both laughter and introspection without losing the essence of the original genius. The collection unites the talents of William Shakespeare, with the adept editorial touches of George Colman and the theatrical flair of David Garrick, two prominent figures of the 18th-century English stage. Their collaborative efforts reflect the lively theatrical culture of their era, showcasing the interplay between the original Shakespearean context and contemporary popular tastes, ultimately bridging the canonical and the innovative in a harmonious display of narrative evolution. Autorenporträt
James Anthony is an award-winning author, yet comes from a distinctly non-literary background. A former tech-entrepreneur, he followed his passion for poetry by 'translating' all 154 of Shakespeare's sonnets, published by Penguin Random House in 2018. James writes across many genres, including travel, screenplays, and fiction, but retains an enduring love of the poetics of Shakespeare's iambic pentameter. After spending many years in the US, James now lives in his native London with his beloved wife Versha. For more information on James's writing, visit www.james-anthony.com
