A Far Country is a novel by American writer Winston Churchill published in 1915. The book follows the career of Hugh Paret from youth to manhood, and how his profession as a corporation lawyer gradually changes his values. "Mr. Churchill shows us America wandering from the early pure and high ideals of democracy, from its religion of liberty and simplicity, down into the ruck of materialism, to wallow with swine, with the sole ambition of getting fatter, of getting more out of the trough than any of its struggling mates. Winston Churchill (November 10, 1871 - March 12, 1947) was an American best-selling novelist of the early 20th century. He is nowadays overshadowed, even as a writer, by the very much more famous British statesman of the same name, with whom he was acquainted, but not related. Their lives had some interesting parallels.
