This Grammar holds to the 8 case system popularized by Robertson, but does so loosely with the authors spending time comparing the traditional 5 case approach to the 8 case approach and explaining why they prefer the 8 case system. Originally published in 1927, A Manual Grammar of the Greek New Testament quickly became the leading second year Greek grammar used in seminaries and universities because of the skill of the authors taking a complex subject and making it feel accessible. In this way, just as New Testament Greek for Beginners by Machin became the most popular introductory text because it was clearly the simpler approach needed by the average Greek student, Dana and Mantey's text became the most popular second year grammar for being similarly approachable
