This monograph provides a new analysis of so-called 'free word order' by concentrating on Persian, and is designed to contribute to the scholarship in theoretical linguistics and the study of Iranian languages. It makes available to the scholars and students in a variety of fields an analytical and in-depth analysis of a not-so-well studied language, and reveals striking parallelism between a number of genetically unrelated languages. Therefore, it provides new contributions to typological studies of natural languages and Universal Grammar.
