I settled onto this title as a breaking forth from the darkness that has captured me in different stages of my life. As I peer into the darkness of night, as the fears, tears and insecurities engulf me. There were some dark times. I hold onto the hopes and dreams and aspirations of tomorrow. I eagerly await the birth of a new day. As the light begins to get brighter and brighter, my heart begins to be overwhelmed, as I witness a new day and a new beginning. Waking up to the start of a new day with new adventures and a new outlook and new feelings. All captivating and exciting. A wonderment with a new vision. As the dawn rises, it brings a feeling of satisfaction and comfort. A warmth from deep within. As the new dawn rises it gives me a sense of appreciation of life. With that in my mind, comes love, joy and peace from the creator that made it all possible. This title and these writings will in itself express my feelings in different ways. I feel many people will relate to these various expressions that is written on these pages. My hope is that as I share these times and many feelings, that it can touch the hearts and minds of others, so that in time, they can look forward to the day when a New Dawn will rise in their lives as well. Writing has always been a passion of mine. I can remember when I was young and was able to start reading, it took ahold of me. I admired the many writers and their different ways of expressing. I began writing and striving to be somehow as good as they were. To be able to express and share. I have at this time been writing for over 40 years, and I am still struggling to be a good writer. My life has been an adventure. It has had a variety of terrains. Growing up in the city of Newark, New Jersey has given me many experiences. It was tough growing up in an ever changing and stressful city environment. I am the middle daughter of James and Mary Watkins. My brother was the eldest, then my sister Pat and then there was my baby sister Avis. I was stuck in the middle, displaying the traits of the "middle child syndrome." All the middle ones understand that. (chuckle) I grew up in a strict but loving household. My mom was the strict disciplinarian. I know that it was tough trying to raise children in a rough and tough city life. My dad was a little easier to get over on sometimes. He was just a sweetheart. We appreciate my mother's choice of a father for us. (smile) Guess it was mutual. Although growing up in a close nit family, there were problems as many families have. There were so many things that I did not understand or appreciate, for example rules and regulations. We had to follow them. Even when we did not like it. Thank goodness we had those values and rules and regulations that my parents taught us. As I grew into adulthood, what's funny, I am still learning. We were sort of a poor family financially. Dad and mom worked real hard for us. I learned a lot from them. Realizing the sacrifices that they did for us all, kept us bonded together. I remember when our parents bought our little house across the street from the cramped little apartment that we all shared. Life changed, as now we could run and play in our little backyard. The streets were tough. I guess we were classified as survivors. I did not always make the best choices, so I had to learn sometimes from what they call "the school of hard knocks." I chose to share my many life's experiences, and choices that I had made. Hopefully in turn, it can help one other person. It can certainly open up to others, how interconnected most of us are. May it have a small part of drawing us closer together. Thank You......Myra Edwina Watkins
