Autorenporträt
Anna Payne Glass was the second-oldest girl with three younger brothers. She was very shy and an anxious child. After graduating high school in Tennessee, she went to LPN school, which helped her overcome her shyness somewhat. At age twenty, she married the boy she went steady with since she was thirteen. She worked at a diagnostic center for disabled children, while her husband attended college to become a minister. She brought two of the children home with her as foster children during her work there. They later had two children of their own and started some of the first homes for the disabled children in Knoxville for four years before he was called to pastor a church in Alabama. After several moves, they settled in Johnson City, Tennessee, where she graduated as a teacher for preschool children. There she wrote several books for the children as she saw need and interest. She never thought of publishing till she wanted a way to help her grandchildren with college expenses. Her late husband, Thomas Payne, had illustrated some of the books. She hopes other children and parents enjoy the books as much as those in her classes.
