This is the story of one, seemingly ordinary baby boomer. The author integrates his life story with the current events of the day, in hopes that his readers can see their own life's journey in his, and on reflection recognize how extraordinary moments are embedded in everyone's seemingly ordinary experiences. His story is informative, reflective and, at times, humorous. It's a good read for anyone born between 1946 and 1964, or who has been influenced by someone from that generation. This is a book for anyone who is able to reflect on the life of another to enrich their own life.

In October, 2013, I retired from Morgan Lewis and from the practice of law. That year I was named "Energy Lawyer of the Year" for Washington D.C., and the following year my old law school, Rutgers, gave me the Arthur E. Armitage Award, given to: "honor graduates of the school who have made significant contributions to their profession." The school explained that the award recipient had to be: "highly regarded, active in civic or professional programs and be trusted with some responsible position." Not a bad recognition to wrap up my legal career. I did not retire from life, however, only law. As for my personal life, I remain one of five siblings, all of whom are healthy and well. I continue to be blessed with almost fifty years of marriage to Ann. Together, we raised three kids, all of whom have grown into healthy, well-adjust-ed, and productive adults. Two have found their own life partners and enjoy wonderful marriages. We have been blessed with four wonderful grandchildren. My mom reigned as the matriarch of the family until she passed away in 2020 at 95. I'm still working on friendships, holding tightly to old ones and forming some new ones. The phrase under my senior picture in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Yearbook for 1969 reads: "Give me a quiet place where I may run my final race" a nod, no doubt, to me being a runner and ,perhaps, to my favorite poet and the author of this phrase, Henry David Thoreau. That same author, also said: "Most men live lives of quiet desperation", and some unknown author added: "and go to their graves with their song still inside them." Currently, I am looking for neither a quiet place nor my final race. And I have never felt desperate over how I have chosen to live my life, nor have I tried to suppress my song. For sure, I turned the page on the life I knew, but as they say: "for every door that closes another opens." I have relished my time since my retirement and look forward to many more adventures in the years to come. My dad had a 27-year retirement, as did his dad before him. Writing down my memories helped me to discern what to cherish and what to let go. Reconstructing my past, also reminded me of what I earlier left behind that may be worth going back for. This book has provided me the opportunity to reflect on all I have experienced during my life. Individually, any single experience could contribute to an ordinary life, but collectively, they have combined to make a seemingly ordinary life an extraordinary one. If I am fortunate to live as long as my father and grandfather, I look forward to writing a sequel to this book in about twenty years, if I have both the inclination and energy, but I suspect as I age I will lack one or both. Until then, cherish each day and those you hold close-you know them, they will be in the first six or seven pews at your funeral.
