The events of the novel take place in Central Asia on the shores of the Black Sea, where the Kingdom of Pontus is located, an independent kingdom of women warriors. It visits the Kingdom of Garigaria once a year and gets rid of male births, keeping only females. The novel depicts how the prophecies of the priestesses controlled the hearts of the women of Pontus and they fought for the god of power and war versus the god of love, Cupid, in a complex religious and political conflict.
