Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874 - 1942) was born on Prince Edward Island, a province of Canada. Young Maud went to live with her maternal grandparents, a stern Presbyterian couple whose rambling farm was the inspiration for "Green Gables." Although trained as a teacher, she became known for a series of young adult novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, first published in 1908. Frank Holtzer has been called "an international adventurer." As an experienced journalist, he's covered poverty in Port-au-Prince, Oktoberfest beer bashes in Munich, the swinging Carnaby Street scene in London, independence in the Bahamas, and the drug trade in Mexico.
