Zinfandel, also known as Primitivo in Italy, is a black-skinned wine grape that is capable of producing a wide variety of wines, ranging from rosé wines such as White Zinfandel, a semi-sweet rosé (blush-style) to light Beaujolais-styled wines to heavier red wines loved for its jammy fruit, and smoky and exotic spice notes. It can also be used to make late harvest dessert wines and fortified Port-styled wines.
While Zinfandel is typically thought of as a uniquely Californian or Italian grape variety, its origin is actually Croatian and the name "Zinfandel" is thought to be Austrian. The grape's versatility, its tannin structure and resilient flavors make it a perfect accompaniment to a wide range of dishes.
A Taste of Zinfandel is illustrated with beautiful and inspiring pictures, also for each recipe. Although wine can be complicated, the text is easy to read so that the subject wine - food - and recipes, and why the components fit perfectly together, becomes understandable. Well read, and cheers.
