She contributes to publications including The Times and Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph and The Spectator, as well as to national radio. She read English at the University of East Anglia and has an honorary masters degree from the Open University. Her family has been connected with Aldeburgh and Suffolk for more than fifty years.
