Abigail "Art " Ruth Teller thought her sophomore year would include the usual teenage worries: getting good grades, breaking away from an overprotective mom, dealing with hormones, having fun with friends and starting to date. Unfortunately, the School Board decided to throw a wrench in her plans by proposing to water down the science program to teach the decidedly unscientific creationism. With such a subpar curriculum, how would Art get into a top university so she could discover a cure for her diabetes? Abigail "Art " Ruth Teller thought her sophomore year would include the usual teenage worries: getting good grades, breaking away from an overprotective mom, dealing with hormones, having fun with friends and starting to date. Unfortunately, the School Board decided to throw a wrench in her plans by proposing to water down the science program to teach the decidedly unscientific creationism. With such a subpar curriculum, how would Art get into a top university so she could discover a cure for her diabetes? Someone was going to have to stop them and it looked as if it was going to be her. As if high school wasn't hard enough. Art didn't know if one teenager could really defeat a group of religious zealots dead set on bringing their political beliefs into the classroom but she vowed she would stop at nothing to save her school.

Autorenporträt
Laura Sessions: Started being an activist in high school, where she fought for students' right to park their cars on a road near the school. They won! The administration was shocked to find Laura didn't even have a car. Next was protesting to move the age of voting from 21 to 18 and from there she continued to fight to end the Vietnam War and fight for women's and minority rights. While attending Ithaca College, she met her future husband Dave, a Brit, while spending junior semester abroad in the United Kingdom. She then went on to become a recruiter in the emerging field of computers. After advising many entry level programmers on how to get into the field she wrote the book "How to Break Into Data Processing" published by Prentice Hall 1982. Today she remains an activist on Facebook, connected to 4300+ fellow progressives and feminists, as well as being one of the founding members of MoveOn's Web team during the 2012 election cycle. She has one son Derek Sessions, who works in the computer field, of course.

Laura never misses a chance to vote. If she had been born 32 years earlier, she wouldn't have been allowed to. Our foremothers were jailed and horribly mistreated while fighting to win that precious vote.

Whitney Lynn: A former high school teacher, current English graduate student, focusing on gendered violence in twentieth century and contemporary American literature and culture. She has worked for women's reproductive rights and as a volunteer advocate for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Whitney has also presented a number of papers related to young adult and women's literature at academic conferences.
