An AI tries to save humanity, even if humanity doesn't want to be saved 2040s, Minneapolis: Carol Marsh struggles as her world falls apart-AIs takeover her teaching job, a racist government deports her best friends, and climate change threatens the planet. When an artificial intelligence takes power to save both Earth and humanity, Carol doesn't protest-until she has to make a choice she could never have imagined. The far future, a place known only as the Land: Sila lives a life blessed by the Goddess Ada, Mother of the Five Peoples. As the first female hunter in her tribe's memory, she has her pick of mates and hopes to one day become Chief of the Hunt. If only Jun, her best friend, would stop questioning the Goddess's rules! When Sila comes to share Jun's doubts, they set out to find the answers Ada has kept hidden: Who were the Ancient Ones, and what happened to their incredible civilization? Ada's Children is a literary post-apocalyptic novel in the tradition of William Gibson and Emily St. John Mandel, depicting a future that is at once utopian and dystopian.

Lawrence Hogue is a writer, educator, environmental advocate, and stay-at-home dad. His previous books include All the Wild and Lonely Places: Journeys in a Desert Landscape (nonfiction/nature writing, Island Press, 2000), Daring and Decorum (LGBTQ historical romance, Supposed Crimes, 2018), and a self-published collection of three short stories, Desert Trilogy. He is also the author of numerous magazine articles, mainly on the outdoors and especially the desert. Though he has been a fan of science fiction since he was a child, Ada's Children is his first sci-fi novel. Also forthcoming is Ship of Fools, a Pynchonesque satire on conspiracy theories and anti-science beliefs. His literary influences include Thomas Pynchon, William Gibson, Dave Eggers, James S.A. Corey, Emily St. John Mandel, and Kim Stanley Robinson, as well as the video game Horizon Zero Dawn. When not writing, he likes to hike, cycle, and go Nordic skiing; play video games; and work or volunteer in various capacities to protect nature.
