The goal of this important book is to provide practitioners, trainees, policymakers, and others-both legal and clinical-with a better understanding of the legal and regulatory issues that may affect their work with people with SUDs-both to inform forensic opinions and to assist in effective care.

Debra A. Pinals, M.D., is an adjunct clinical professor of psychiatry anddirector of the Program in Psychiatry, Law, and Ethics at the University of MichiganMedical School; clinical adjunct professor at the University of Michigan LawSchool; and senior medical and forensic advisor and editor-in-chief for the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors.

Laurence M. Westreich, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of patients dually diagnosed with addiction and mental disorders.
