From deep space to the cities and jungles of Earth, from the distant future to the ancient past come sixteen stories of science fiction, horror and the supernatural. Frightening confrontations, disturbing revelations of the human mind and threats of scientific terror comprise many, but not all of the flights of imagination contained in "Adrift on Ethereal Seas." Many contain the eerie ring of truth, invasions from beyond time and space to the here and now. 1) Parapsychologists and the minister they've invited to their newest discovery can hear the sound of a man shooting his wife, two…mehr
1) Parapsychologists and the minister they've invited to their newest discovery can hear the sound of a man shooting his wife, two daughters and himself in "A Suburban Haunting." Trouble is: their audio recording equipment registers nothing. 2) In "The Ghost Next Door" a little boy exhibits deeply troubling behavior in a house reputed to be haunted. Is it a ghost or something far more sinister? 3) A supercomputer is programmed to download information directly from the human brain with both miraculous and terrifying results in "System Virus." 4) "Seeing Things" is a horror/suspense sequel to the novel "Pray for the Devil." 5) A young man claims to envision former lives he's lived on other planets in "Exile." 6) "Jesus and the Monster" gives the detailed backstory of Jesus' terrifying confrontation with the demon called Legion found in Luke 8. 7) A mass murderer is visited in prison by the ghosts of the past, present and future, each providing insight into his eternal fate in "An Xmas Carol." 8) Two pilots relate their terrifying experience in the South Pole in "The Wacko Factor." 9) On a distant planet, a young woman cares for the last of several deadly alien species in "Deep Quarantine." 10) A volcano "Under the Ice" uncovers monstrous secrets of Earth's antiquity. 11) An intergalactic mailwoman inadvertently lures a horrific lifeform back to "God's Green Earth." 12) No one drives over "The Mountain at Night," and for good reason. 13) A globe-trotting botanist proves our Earth is being used as an "Incubator" by alien life-forms. 14) The same botanist and his wife lead two proteges into a remote jungle to prove their theory in "Desperate Measures." 15) A world-famous astronomer makes a shocking discovery about Earth's ancient history when he learns our moon serves as a photographic plate in "Moonglow." 16) The sole survivor of an alien invasion records the last days of humanity in "EL.E."

Autorenporträt
Richard Van Doren is an ordained minister in a mainline Protestant denomination. He has always been fascinated by the fringe element in American culture and the extreme events that test faith. All of his novels and short stories deal with the collision of spirituality and earthly crises, or the ongoing conflict between the forces of good and evil. He moonlights as a college composition instructor, and every semester he teaches his students the two most important rules of writing: 1) write on a subject about which you know something, and 2) write on a subject about which you feel strongly. Over the years he has read and heard about countless instances of dark invasions into every day, innocent living. Anyone who has ever experienced something very strange, or who believes that we live in a reality that extends far beyond this world of the five senses will find his novels and stories much to their liking. All of these works contain instances that Van Doren has either experienced in his career or was told about by friends, students, parishioners and family.
