This ebook honors the tourism-related body of work of John Urry and his colleagues. This body of work includes describing and explaining the "e;tourist gaze"e;, that is, the set of expectations that tourists place on local populations when they participate in heritage/cultural tourism, in the search for having an "e;authentic"e; experience. In response to tourist expectations and often cultural and racial stereotypes, local populations reflect back the "e;gaze"e; of the expectations of tourists in order to benefit financially.
