Autorenporträt
George Catlin (1796 – 1872) was an American writer, painter, lawyer, and traveler who was fascinated with the indigenous culture of the Old West. In his lifetime, he created a massive collection of paintings and engravings depicting the nature of the American West and the lifestyle of Plain Indians. This collection also included numerous artifacts and received the name "The Indian Collection." Besides traveling with his collection across the United States and abroad, Catlin authored several memoirs and a non-fiction book about Indian breathing techniques, later published as "Shut Your Mouth and Save Your Life."
