After his many Arab trips, which occupied him for several years, the desire arose among the Lebanese writer and thinker, Amin Al-Rihani, for a trip to an Arab country that the ancient Arabs called the Far Maghreb. This desire was no less urgent and tyrannical than the desires on the trips he undertook. Rather, it was stronger and more intense, penetrating to the utmost corners of the soul, and it became yearning like a young heart, the heart of a lover, for that Arab country in North West Africa. Al-Rihani says: If you wish, reader, to accompany me, you are welcome. As for the hardships of the journey, you are far from it, and you may not feel it, while you are sitting in your chair - or lying in your bed, smoking a cigarette, cigar, hookah, or pipe, and this book is in your hand - I say You may feel nothing but the boredom that every book has in some of its pages, and there may be a lot of such boredom in this book. Then all you have to do is put it aside - please gently, not violently - and continue smoking, sleeping, or whatever thought, anger, or hatred it may have aroused in you.
