In the spring of 1921 AD, the French Monsieur Estache de Lorey came to Syria from the Scientific Academy and the Louvre Museum in Paris. To excavate Islamic antiquities in Damascus, and in the beginning of the year 1922 AD, he bought the "Palace of Asaad Pasha Al-Azm" for the sum of sixty thousand Syrian pounds, and he made it his headquarters and began to restore it and collect some antiquities, and announced that he would establish there a school to teach the national industries for which Syria in general and Damascus in particular were famous.
