The paths of many academic disciplines crisscross in Alexander von Humboldt's voluminous writings on the Americas. Examining different aspects of his work, this collection shows that Humboldt speaks as loudly and meaning fully to cultural and literary historians in the twenty-first century as he has done to social and natural scientists in the past two centuries.
