Brothers Mikhail and Fedor Dostoevsky wanted to be engaged in literary work from a young age, but their father believed that the writer's work could not ensure the material well-being of his sons and took them to St. Petersburg to prepare for admission to the Main Engineering School. In the Writer's Diary, Fyodor Dostoevsky recalled how, on the way to St. Petersburg, "I was constantly writing a novel about Venetian life in my mind." Fedor Dostoevsky was recognized as a classic of Russian literature and one of the best novelists of world importance after his death. His work has had a significant impact on world literature, and the most famous novels of the writer were included in the list of 100 best books of the Norwegian Book Club.
