Swede Tom Cooper was born to a Caucasian man and a Japanese mother a decade before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Tom is branded by his eyes and struggles throughout his life as a patriotic American who is suspect because he looks more like the enemy than those he with whom he attends school, those he counsels as a Lutheran pastor, or those with whom he grows old. It is a story of perserverance, a battle with dementia, and a life well lived while surrounded by interesting, querky, loving family and friends. It is about saying Sorry for something Tom didn't do and accepting apologies from those without guilt. Light, fun, and revealing.
