Autorenporträt
Born in 1962, a native of the Connemara Gaeltacht. One of Ireland's foremost contemporary Irish-language prose writers. Also a publisher. Has written several books, including a social history of Connemara and the Aran Islands: Conamara agus Arainn 1880 - 1980: Gneithe den Stair Shoisialta. ¿Two short-story collections published, Mac an tSagairt and An Fear a Phleasc, and first novel, Sna Fir, to be published shortly. Has won many national literary awards, particularly for his short stories, including the Butler Literary Award in 1997. He also won the Hennessy Award for Literature in 1997 and was nominated New Irish Writer of the Year. His works have been translated into several languages and he was elected a member of Aosdana in 1998 for his 'outstanding contribution to the Arts in Ireland.'
