Nearly every history book touches on the history of ancient Greece and Rome, from whom our government and institutions owe their foundations. Indeed, ancient historians like Livy and Plutarch, whose work formed the basis of education for generations, were able to capture the great deeds of even greater men. From them, we know who built the Parthenon and the structure of Spartan society, but they don't provide much insight on the lives of the less important or indeed, the very slaves upon whose backs much of their society and progress was built upon. Ancient Echoes is the story of the slave. It is the story of the aristocrat who owned wealth but not so much that he influenced society. It's the story of a slave woman giving away her child to save its life but who would mistreat her as a slave. It's the story of a father, eking out a life on the Roman frontier only to find out the cost of living so far from the city. It's a story a real, yet fictional, people who are forgotten in the shadow of the greats.
