Autorenporträt
Author John Caknipe Jr. is a third-generation Mecklenburg County resident. His family moved from the mountains of North Carolina in the early 1900s in response to the advertisements of cheap, rich, and fertile farmlands. His extended family members were some of the earliest settlers to the area, and since the 1800s, they have participated in every military need from the Civil War to the present. Caknipe and his wife raised their son and daughter in the area and, as local merchants and farmers, have invested their lives into Chase City and western Mecklenburg County.
