Have you ever thought of taking a 3-month long trip to Japan? From mid-October 2022 to mid-January 2023, I took on a mission to visit all 47 Prefectures of Japan.
As I had already visited quite a number of these 47 Prefectures in the past, and it would not sound right to spend only one or two days in every Prefecture equally, I did put aside some of those that I had already visited in previous trips.
This way, it would mean that I could spend more time on Prefectures that I liked, say Hokkaido, rather than hopping between every single Prefecture every other day.

From Hokkaido to Kyushu, I managed to check the remaining boxes on the list, completing my mission in just 90 days.

This book documents my 90-day journey in the form of travel essays. You can see my different experiences among these Prefectures.

The most famous travelogue in the past few decades, is, arguably, Eat, Pray, Love. I like the movie, and I get the criticisms of the book as to the veracity of the claims, and how likely can people resemble the same trip.

Therefore, instead of telling you how you can get your leave from work, or how to get a visa in case you need one, or even how you save enough and who is going to take care of your dog and your family when you are away, I focus on the individual episodes that marked my time in the respective Prefectures.

If you want information on rail passes or a detailed itinerary, you can check out my website hanedakento.com. There is plenty of travel information on the site.

In the meantime, please sit back, relax, and enjoy this Japanese trip with me.

Some highlights include indulging in Shizuoka's Oden, experiencing the World Cup festivities in Shibuya and Roppongi, and the meditative beauty of autumn leaves at Rikugien Gardens. Culinary moments come alive with stops for Koenji Tendon, Ise Ebi Sashimi, and the famous Shabu Shabu in Kagoshima, while natural wonders, such as Kawaguchiko and the historic Kotohiragu, offer a counterpoint to urban excitement. There's even a trip back to Hokkaido on New Year's Eve, ending the journey in the northernmost landscapes.
