Through this book, American writer Erwin Edman aims to increase knowledge of the common denominator that brings together the arts of poetry, photography, sculpture, architecture, and music, concluding with an exploration of the bond that links all the arts with philosophy. He wanted it to be a brief introduction to aesthetics. It is the result of deep thought in the arts from which aesthetic images arise, and in the experience from which the arts grow, which in turn clarify and elevate the experience. The chapters of the book confirm that the relationship between art and man is a dynamic relationship whose data is always shaped according to the cultural conditions that people live in, and that the development of artistic styles over time and in different civilizations was a reflection of the development of humanity itself. The arts are a product of human creativity, and are considered a form of human culture, because they are an expression. It is about subjectivity, and not an expression of a person's need for the requirements of his life, although some scholars consider art a life necessity for humans, like water and food.
