The novel revolves around "Elizabeth"; She was the last of the Jewish girls to immigrate from Egypt, and her mother was Madame "Nakhil," a movie extra in the 1940s, one of those who danced the Clacket in the Haram Street casinos, and a friend of the English murderer, "Jack Malecki," the Jew. After the loss of her mother and the loss of her affiliation to the Jewish community in Egypt, Elizabeth lives in a state of loss in a society that has changed her and rejects her because she is a Jew living in the Al-Zaher neighborhood in ancient Egypt. Elizabeth enters into a number of exploitative relationships between two companions: one of them is a Muslim influenced by the extremist Islamic trend, and the other is a Christian who is submissive to the Europeans, despising himself. However, she therefore exploits them to serve her dog in a long, exhausting relationship that ends with the catastrophic burning of the Sainsbury's supermarket chain due to sectarian strife, and she has no choice but to escape.
