Mauritius - which includes also the islands Rodrigues, Agalega and Cardagos-Carajos - is located at least 1700 km from the African mainland in the Indian Ocean. The main island is mountainous and largely coverered with tropical forest. In their isolated location the islands have many endemic animal and plant species. Hence BirdLife International declared the region a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P). Our multilingual (en, de, fr, es, ja) bird guide presents the entire bird life of the island nation in colour - including the pelagic and the extinct species.
