The Bahamas are an island state in the Atlantic, however the subtropical archipelago is usually considered Caribbean. Large parts of the flat coral islands are forested. There are not only a number of endemic bird species, but also many migrants from North America may be watched wintering in the warm climate. A specialty is the rare Kirtland's Warbler, the population of which migrates almost completely to the Bahamas. Also, many typical Caribbean birds occur here, including many bird species with restricted range, hence BirdLife International pronounced the archipelago a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P).
