The Falkland Islands are an archipelago with around 200 islands in the southern Atlantic. They are located almost 400 km east of southern Argentina. The vegetation is reminiscent of tundra, but the climate is milder and there is no permafrost. Mount Usborne on Eastern Falkland is the highest elevation, reaching little more than 700m. There are penguin colonies on the coasts, which can include several million birds. There are only two endemic bird species, the Falkland Steamer Duck and the Cobb's Wren, but numerous endemic subspecies. According to BirdLife International, the Falkland Islands form a large primary endemic bird area (EBA-P) with southern Patagonia, i.e. here live relatively many species of birds with a small distribution range. This multilingual (en, es, de, fr, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of the Falklands Islands in colour.
