The Hawaiian Islands have a unique avifauna, with their endemic specialties, seabirds and large numbers of introduced species. Unfortunately, there are far more introduced species than surviving endemic species. Oahu, where the capital Honolulu is located, has relative few endemic bird species and the largest variety of introduced species. On Maui there is Haleakala National Park, while the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is located on the 'Big Island'. Both are worth visiting not only because of the spectacular landscape, but also to look for rare endemic bird species. Both parks belong to an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site. This multilingual (en, es, de, fr, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of the Hawaiian Isands in colour.
