Madeira is located about 730 km west of the Moroccan coast. It is well developed touristicly and offers excellent hiking possibilities. A large part of Madeira is overgrown with laurel forest. Since the laurel forest has disappeared on mainland Europe during the Ice Age, the remains on the islands are protected.
