In their late teens, Moshe, an ultra-orthodox Jew and Eva, traditionally Jewish, flee the Nazis in Wloclawek, Poland, dodging death in the Bialowiez¿a forest, seeking refuge in Russia. When World War II ends, they journey by ship to Australia, arriving with a two-year-old, a baby, a small brown suitcase and five pounds, sent to them by their sponsors. They successfully adjust to life in Australia, a country they love, but ultimately they experience more than they reckoned for.
