Telegraph lines were put up and a telegrapher came in just a little while after the war. The town had a sheriff named, Tom Banister, and a deputy sheriff named, Jim Iverson. On the most part, Stallion Springs was a peaceful, quiet little out of the way town looking to expand its borders. The year: 1872. There were three prominent cattle ranches in the surrounding area, as well as, three well to do farms producing a variety of fruits and vegetables to be sold on the open market, and to small towns like Stallion Springs. Then, it happened. Farms were attacked and people were killed. Cattle ranches were attacked, and cattle was stolen by the Cheyenne, Sioux, and the Arapaho, and in those attacks people were killed. Eventually, the town of Stallion Springs itself came under attack by the Cheyenne, Sioux, and Arapaho. The town nearly disappeared from the face of the earth, but the citizens fought back bravely saving the town from utter destruction. Many lives were lost on both sides, and yet the town survived to see a better day. So was the plight of Stallion Springs, Nebraska. In the annuls of history, though it is not covered in any history book, it is forever known as, 'Battle of Stallion Springs'.
