Creative short story writer, Melanie Schatzel, M.Ed. writes a faith-based novella with the intent of reaching Christians in this book, "Be Brave: A Novella For Christians". The setting begins with the narrator describing a scene depicting three teen boys who are visiting their parents in the town's cemetery. Each is described as they are seen holding a flower, or a bouquet of flowers. The collection of floral gifts are as different as the personalities of these three brothers paying an annual tribute to their parents who were buried on the same day as twelve others. In this heart-warming story, the narrator follows Jeremy, the eldest as he prepares to share with his brothers that he is no longer going to delay serving a mission for his church. He is ready to leave and feels that now is the time to do so. Only to discover that his brothers are in agreeance and proud of his decision. The story then transitions to the second son, the middle brother, Joseph. Joseph's life changes quickly once his brother--Blue J is gone on his mission. "Jo" suffers an injury that delays his plans and has him redefining himself while strengthening his faith and resolve to serve a mission. Shortly after his eldest brother has gone, the town suffers the devastating effects of an early winter coupled with a devastating fire. Determined to stay and help, Jo discovers that his attempt to save the town results in an enhanced physical challenge. It is now that the reader discovers that these three boys are determined to serve their missions, but are having to overcome challenges that first test their testimony and their love of the Lord. While Jeremy is still on his mission, Joseph informs Jacob that he is now ready to go. To which Jacob encourages his brother to be brave and press forward. But while both are away, and the town is still rebuilding after the destructive fire, something unexpected happens that will cause the reader to ask themselves, "Would I be brave if my testimony were tested?" Follow along as the three boys prepare, as men, to serve the Lord and prove themselves faithful servants in the face of challenges.
