'Beach Nights and Blue Lights' chronicles the amusing adventures of law enforcement in a 1970s eastern North Carolina beach town. From beach brawls to baffling burglaries, these stories highlight the comedic side of keeping peace in a place where anything could happen and usually did. In March 2018, after 45 years of dedicated public service, David Bratton officially retired from a career that spanned nearly every corner of emergency response. His journey included 28 years in the fire service, 15 years as an EMT, 25 years in emergency management, and 42 years in law enforcement. Somehow, he managed to balance these roles-no clones involved, just a lot of hard work and passion for helping others. Since joining the fire department in 1972 and law enforcement in 1975, David Bratton has seen the field evolve in countless ways. From the introduction of new technologies to procedural shifts, one thing he's learned is that while the tools may change, the core mission of public service remains timeless. 'The latest gadget might make the job flashier,' he notes, 'but the basics of serving others never go out of style.' Throughout his career, he had the privilege of working alongside some of the finest professionals in the state, sharing knowledge, offering mentorship, and building lasting friendships.
