'No-children tribe' to 'His head was not correct', these accounts of life as a medical officer in Northern Nigeria in the 195Os and early 60s, are written with & keenly observant eye, empathy, humour and & deep fondness for Nigeria and its people. Michael McAlister Holmes left Ireland in 1953 to join the Colonial Medical Service and went to Northern Nigeria. He then became Senior Medical Officer for Northern Nigeria, responsible for the medical services of a vast area and an enormous population, at a time of great change in the country. Michael died at only 55, leaving some stories unfinished. This collection was collated by his wife and daughter.
