The poems, stories, and essays in this anthology are written by writers with disabilities, sharing slices of their lives and experiences. Although disability is a part of some of these selections, it is not the focus or theme of this anthology. See and experience daily life, historical moments, and nature's wonders through the words of these authors.

Behind Our Eyes, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, offers accessible opportunities for writers with disabilities to share and discuss their work with fellow members, guest authors, and professionals in the publishing field via their e-mail list and teleconferences. Through positive critique and suggestions, the members support and assist each other in their on-going efforts to express themselves in the written word, and to enhance their skills. Braille displays, screen reading software, and other adaptive technologies, provide accessibility to technology and publishing outlets for many of these writers.

This third anthology showcases the literary endeavors of this unique collection of writers. Their first anthology, "Behind Our Eyes," was published in 2007 and it was followed up with "Behind Our Eyes: A Second Look" in 2013. "Magnets and Ladders: Active Voices of Writers with Disabilities," an online literary magazine, has been publishing work by writers with disabilities since 2011.

Most of the pieces in Behind Our Eyes 3: A Literary Sunburst were published in "Magnets and Ladders." Other pieces were submitted by Behind Our Eyes members specifically for the anthology. Some were inspired by group conference calls and mailing list posts and prompts.

You are invited to read this book from cover to cover, or to select a few pieces at random to whet your appetite. Speaking of appetite, our Literary Smorgasbord section includes recipes that relate to those selections.
