ANC systematically destroyed South Africa. Read Zondo Report. First, it betrayed our political hopes, then proceeded to break everything it found in the state and in society because they were infested by a corruption virus. Pointing out this problem is only a small part of the story, the real challenge arises when we must answer the question - what now? Seldom in life is there any issue of significance that will yield to simple answers. Few appear courageous to rise to the occasion beyond criticising the wrong, even fewer are prepared to dare the colonial system and lay down their lives for the sake of posterity. The rallying cry, Malibuye izwe lethu manje! has never been more urgent. The pulse of the nation is reading despair, frustration and anger. If more troubles lie ahead, my duty to the nation is present.
This was not an essay I was automatically drawn to write. I was brought all but kicking and screaming unwilling to accept this is a task someone like me ought to undertake. It is perhaps important to note the reason I hesitated to write this book. First, I was an active participant in the prosecution of the liberation struggle in my youth, something I have kept away from public knowledge. For those who do not know me it is easy to cast aspersions on my claim and dismiss all my argument as sour grapes because I benefited nothing from the proceed of a corrupted culture in our politics. Second, because of the nature of the South African politics - puerile, transient, and always in a bubble. To comment on current affairs was like wasted breath. Lastly, South African politics are personality-driven therefore, prickly. In this country it is easy to get killed seating in the safety of your couch for criticising the ruling political class. This is understandable if paradoxical. Money is at work in our politics.
