Better Ways to See celebrates the author's unique perspectives through experiences with nature and art. He attributes his "better" ways of seeing to parents who wanted him and his sister to have more wonder-filled views of the world than they had because of their limited Great Depression era experiences. The chapbook includes a series of bird and nature poems linked to an outing with his father where they sought out the first post-DDT eagle to return to central North Carolina. The other pieces are ekphrastic poems inspired by sculptures he saw with his mother during a visit to the Storm King Art Center in the Hudson River Valley.
